Brewin' in the New Year!

First and foremost, I'd like to wish all two of you that still follow this blog (thanks mom and self ;) a happy new year! What's my resolution, you ask? Perhaps for starters I could try updating Brewtiful Cincy more than, say, once every three months? A daunting task, but I think I'm up for it...

So. In terms of this town's brewing heritage, 2010 has kicked off to a tumultuous start. Would you like the good news or bad news first? I always like to get the bad out of the way, so let's just start there. Several weekends ago the old Christian Moerlein barrel house was devastated by a 4-alarm fire.

It was a dramatic, heartbreaking scene, however, all may not be lost. There's currently hope that the building can be saved. http://www.fox19.com/Global/story.asp?S=11805830

On a more positive note, it looks like we've got a new brewery on the block! Rivertown Brewery, headed up by Jason Roeper and Randy Schlitz - members of the Bloatarian Brewing League, have opened their microbrewery in Lockland. Their scheduled release date is the Cincy Beerfest (Jan. 30th) and you can expect to see their products up on the shelves in early February. Congratulations!

And finally, Bockfest and the Prohibition Resistance Tour are both on the horizon, so mark your calendars for the weekend of March 5-7! Tickets are actually on sale for the tour already, so get 'em while they last! This event is known to sell out. The Brewery District CURC is working on a great lineup this year, including stops at the Clyffside, Kauffman and Crown Breweries. Click here for more info and to purchase tickets.

Oh, I guess there's one more thing... "Cincinnati's Brewing History" will be released the first week of March! Stay tuned for more details...
